Rope Lights Buying Guide

If you are looking for a way to spruce up your garden area, outside deck or patio, or even do something unique for the holidays with the fireplace mantle, staircase, or Christmas tree, then you should consider buying rope lights. In fact, rope lights have become a hot item in that they are beautiful, easy to use, and safe. You will find that these types of lights come in a huge selection, some discussed below.

First, rope lights are available in various lengths, commonly ranging from 6 feet to 96 feet. That way, no matter the size of your project or the area you want to cover, you will have many choices. Additionally, the diameter of rope lights varies, again, commonly from 1 ½ to 5/8 of an inch. Then, you get into the color choices, which are truly amazing. For instance, you will find amber, blue, green, yellow, red, clear, purple, pink, and more.

Rope lights are also a great way to dress up a reception hall for a wedding. In this case, you could attach the lights to the front and sides of the wedding couple’s table, run a string around the diameter of each guest table, string them along the doorway, on the windows, and even use them to decorate the outside edges of the dance floor. As you can imagine, the entire place would look like a magical castle.

Rope lights also work well for various types of parties. For instance, let us say that you were having a Halloween party. To create a spooky yet festive look, you could mingle red with purple. For a Valentine’s Day party, red and white would be beautiful. You could even add red and green for a Christmas party. In other words, the possibilities to create a festive environment using rope lights are endless.

Now, if you want to decorate the Christmas tree or perhaps create a less intense look for the edging of a backyard pagoda, you might go with miniature rope lights. In this case, you can purchase reels up to 150 feet in length with the bulb spacing about one inch apart. This type of lighting is 120 volts, provides approximately 30,000 life hours, and is UL listed for both indoor and outdoor use. Just as with the regular size rope lights, the miniature version comes in a wide range of colors.

When buying rope lights, you want to remember that not all brands are created equal so the first consideration is quality for safety reasons. We suggest you choose lighting made from tungsten filaments, those filled with heavy krypton gas, temperature sustainable PVC design so the bulb will not brown the area around, triple casing PVC sleeves for durability, and triple wire construction for bulb-to-bulb construction. By choosing the right type of rope lights, you will have months and months of colorful enjoyment.
