Safety Lights

Safety lights that must always be available in any household is a flashlight and a set of emergency candles.  If ever there is a natural disaster that will cut all power to your home, you want to be sure that you are prepared.  A safety kit that includes matches, candles, flashlights and batteries should be handy, and all family members must know where it is located.  A safety flashlight should be kept separate from a flashlight that is commonly used within the home to ensure that it will work when needed.  You will want to ensure that the matches in your safety kit are waterproof and the candles will burn for a long period of time.     

Some advice for safety in your home is to ensure that all outlets are not overloaded, it is never safe to have several appliances plugged into one outlet with an extension plug as it can overload the circuit breaker and cause it to flip off and damage any appliances you may have plugged into it.  Another way to ensure safety lights is to be certain that when replacing a bulb it is replaced with a bulb with the correct voltage.  Most light fixtures will indicate the maximum voltage that can be used, and you must never exceed the maximum voltage requirement.  During the Christmas holidays you must never overload outlets with too many lighting.  Also be sure that the lights you are placing within your home are for indoor use, not outdoor.  All lighting should indicate its use with a tiny tag that is located near the plug.  Another way to avoid a fire hazard is by placing timers on your electrical decorations, both interior and exterior.  It may also help deter any theft while you are away as they will come on automatically giving off the image that you are home.

Safety lights are not only useful within your home, but they can be extremely helpful during a car emergency.  You can purchase kits that have flashlights, triangular lighting, or flashing lights that will indicate to other drivers that you are in need of assistance.  Other forms of safety lights are those tiny lights that can be attached atop your cell phone, or used on your keychain that will help you to see a short distance in the dark.  It is also useful when you need to see the lock on your house door or car door and avoid and scratches caused during the search for the lock.  Safety lights can be used in any type of emergency and one should always be on hand, whether it is in your home or in your car.
