LED Lights

LED Lights Overview

More and more often, items with LED lights are taking the retail market by storm. This unique type of state of the art technology is sweeping the world by storm, but you may be wondering what exactly is included in the light bulb itself.

LED is an abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode, which is simply a way to produce light instead of the traditional filament bulb. One reason why products include LED light bulbs is because of their fantastic lasting ability and small size. Often, travel products or products of a small size, including book lights and small flashlights, use LED lights for size and durability reasons.

LED lights produce light by using a method known as electroluminescence. In essence, an LED is nothing more than what is known as a semiconductor diode, but is a great deal more complicated that the name would suggest. This technology is relatively recent, which is the reason why all types of light producing products are jumping on the LED bandwagon. Also, LED lights are capable of producing red, blue, and white lights depending on the specific bulb used, so the novelty factor and safety factor is huge.

One of the most popular products that uses LED lights is the flashlight that never needs batteries or replacement bulbs. Due to the incredible long life of LED light bulbs, these flashlights are perfect to stash in car trunks, emergency kits, camping boxes, or anywhere else in the home that might need a flashlight.

Typically, every time you turn to a flashlight, the batteries are dead, leaving the light itself essentially useless. Instead, LED flashlights are powered by shaking the light unit until a beam of blue light is emitted. For this reason, flashlights that use LED lights are incredibly popular and are popping up in homes, vehicles, and offices all over the country.

Another popular product that uses LED lights is the powerful keychain lights that rival the light emission of a full sized flashlight. These thin, lightweight flashlights are scarcely larger than a quarter and able to light a wide space. Perfect for emergencies or just trying to find the keyhole to unlock your car on a dark night, these flashlights make great gifts for anyone and everyone. Kids especially love the flashlights that use colored LED lights so that a beam or blue or red light can be emitted by simply squeezing the light.

Finally, another product that uses LED lights is reading lights. These small lights are designed to attach to a book in order to provide the necessary light required for proper reading. Since LED light bulbs are exceptionally tiny and lightweight, they are perfect for use in this situation. The old fashioned book lights that weigh a considerable amount and use traditional AAA or even AA batteries have been literally blown away by their lightweight successors. Furthermore, LED lights will never need to be replaced, so that you can enjoy the light provided by your book light for many, many books to come.
