Desk Lamp: A Home Office Essential

A good desk lamp is an essential part of any home office. Working from home is becoming more and more popular. Working from home requires that you not only set aside specific amounts of time to work each day but also space.

The kitchen table can be a great make shift office for a single afternoon of work. Working there for the duration of a week or longer can be quite uncomfortable. If you are going work from home and be successful you have to find space to have a home office. An office at home needs much of the same accessories as your office at work. A comfy chair, a sturdy desk, and a desk lamp are must haves in your home office.

Some people are lucky have an entire room or even a basement to devote to work while others simply have to make due with a corner of the living room or extra bedroom. Lighting is also a key component. A home office which is not well lit can be killer on the eyes and make you feel fatigued well before the end of the day. A desk lamp is the perfect solution if your home office does not get enough natural or overhead light.

Organization – Make sure no matter how big or small your home office is you have storage. You need to have enough storage to be able to keep organize both new and old records. We do not yet live in a paperless work environment so it's important to keep work papers neat and tidy. The last thing you want is to have your work papers exposed to a wet basement or a dumped cup of coffee.

Storage containers are relatively inexpensive and can be found at your local office supplier store. These stores also offer a full line of office lights. Make sure you pick up a desk lamp if you do not already have one. If you are feeling overwhelmed you may consider calling a professional organizer to get you started.

Work Space – Coffee tables and dining room tables are not dedicated work spaces. While they are handy they are not good for long term work efforts. This is because they need to be cleaned off and used for other things. This makes it impossible to keep your work items out and organized.

Home workers need a dedicated space that is their own and private. Office armories are always a good choice. A closet can easily be converted into work space. In small spaces it is very important for your eyes to have enough light. Make sure you fit any dedicated work space with a desk lamp.

Equipment – Having the right equipment to work form home is important. You may want to ask yourself the following questions- Do you need additional phone lines? Do you need more electrical outlets? Are you going to require a fax machine? If you spend a great deal of time on the phone you may want to invest in a light weight headset. A good desk lamp and a comfy office chair are great first buys for your new work from home office.
