There are almost as many choices for bathroom lights as there are people to choose them. In fact, a preliminary shopping trip (in person, in a catalog or online) will reveal not just dozens of styles for bathroom lights, but hundreds. Some companies are urging designers, contractors, and homeowners to move away from the boring and traditional bathroom lights to more contemporary styles with metal finishes and colored glass that will give the bathroom some life.
However, these same companies add that if you want to stay with the traditional styles you should seek top quality reproductions of bronze, brass, and wood finishes. One place to start in lighting your bathroom is with vanity lights. High-end double and triple light fixtures can cost as much as $100 to $200, depending on the style, as well as the complexity of design. These come in styles where the glass shade reaches up and with glass shades that hang in a pendant style. You can also choose open, cup-like glass or closed globe for many styles. The more contemporary vanity lights and bath bars use primarily stainless steel or a brushed metal look. The glass over each bulb is generally white, though the shapes may be round, oval or even square. One interesting design uses amber glass, stainless steel in a tube design and wood inserts. The look can be pleasing with the right overall bathroom plan. Contractors and designers will sometimes tell you that the bathroom is given the least amount of thought and planning when it comes to lighting. Then they add that the bathroom should probably be given the most attention, or at least as much as every other room. One contractor even reminds us that often, this room is where we start the day, which is also the room where we end the day. Given this, bathroom lighting might deserve a little more attention. Other companies encourage homeowners and those remodeling a home to go the extra step and make the bathroom as comfortable and inviting as a spa. Bathroom lights can be a part of this upgrade. Along with a comfortable tub, spa, and well-made vanity, the bathroom lights can be one of several types. Depending on the design, homeowners can choose from traditional and classic styles, contemporary, Oriental, country/cottage and even primitive. There are literally thousands of bathroom lights to pick from. As you think about remodeling your current bathroom or when you are building a new home, think about bathroom lights as one of the more important decisions you will make. |
