The higher the wattage the larger the opening at the top of the lamp shade opening . The color or shade of the lamp shade should be an aesthetic decision. If this is going to be a decorative lamp shade, it needs to be attractive and fit the setting. Go for lots of color and trim if you want something stylish and feminine.
